Time to do a little home improvement. I decided to remove the cupboard doors in the kitchen. they weren't closing properly, and the paint job on them was horrible. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to be as easy as just unscrewing the hinges. I was going to have to remove the paint from the hinges to uncover the screws. I dropped by the hardware store and picked up a container of "Super Paint and Latex Stripper and Remover Gel' . I got home and applied this magic compound with a cloth to the hinges... in 20 minutes it had done it's work and the paint had bubbled up and came off easily with some scraping. moments later the cupboard doors were off and I considered the project done... (apart from the hole in the ceiling inside the cupboard that could now be seen from any point in the kitchen).

I was thrilled with how well this magic gel was able to remove paint, so I started to look around the house for more places to use it. I found an ornate heating vent that had been painted over with bright red (in the history of this house, it had been subject to many coats of paint) I spread some newspaper on the floor surrounding the vent and prepared to do the task. I grabbed a plastic cup and poured a little bit of this magic gel into it.

Little did I know that the compound that eats away latex paint in minutes, will eat the bottom out of a plastic cup in seconds......it will also eat a hole in polyester pants, nylon socks, and vinyl shoes before it leaves a hole in the vinyl floor during following 4 minutes while you try to get this burning compound off of your skin.

So I went to work today. First day of actual work. I got there early so that I could make sure I had everything in place... there was a note waiting for me. 'Please complete training module 4'. I sat down at the desk and typed in my password. it didn't work.....I saw my manager who told me to call the tech department in charge of passwords (there's an entire department devoted to this).
I dialed all ten digits to reach an office 2 floors away from where I was sitting.
-Press 1 for service in English,
-Press 1 for computer passwords (2 was for voicemail passwords)
-Enter your 9-digit employee number
-Press 04 to speak to a security supervisor directly
Then I spoke to someone directly, I verbally gave them my employee number, my last name, my voicemail number, and then told him what I wanted my new password to be. (There were only 4 other people in the room who could hear and write down this information.)

Then I was ready to:
-Log into the computer
-Log into the email system,
-and log into the training system.

and I started my final course in training for the new job. it's title?
"security and privacy in the workplace."

I'm not shitting you....

right.... it's been 8 months since I bothered to work on this... why? simple. I lost my password.... However, I've promised myself I'd spend more time on the things I enjoy, and this is one of them... Do you care? no.... should you? no... However. My next post will be a review of the Edmonton Folk fest... that should be worth reading...
